Becca M. Kennedy

Becca M. Kennedy has practiced family law for more than two decades, and she has never practiced anything else. That focus is deliberate. The matters she handles turn on questions that reward depth rather than breadth: whether a business interest built during a marriage can be traced to premarital capital, how a closely held company should be valued when one spouse controls the books, and what a court will actually do with a contested conservatorship record.

Becca founded the firm to build a practice around that conviction. She handles a deliberately limited number of matters at a time, which means clients work directly with her rather than with a rotating team, and which allows each case to receive the preparation that difficult facts require. She is a certified family law mediator and is trained in collaborative law, so she can move a case toward a private resolution where that serves the client, and try it where it does not.

A Direct Approach

Becca is a trial attorney, and she is prepared to try a case when the facts and the economics warrant it. She is equally willing to tell a client when a dispute is costing more than it can possibly return. Clients regularly describe her as direct, which she takes as a compliment. She believes the outcome of a divorce is largely determined in the first sixty days, and her practice is built around getting that early groundwork right rather than around volume.

Before the Firm

Becca earned both her undergraduate and law degrees from Baylor University. She has been licensed to practice in Texas since 2002 and became Board Certified in Family Law in 2007. Before founding her own firm, she was a trial attorney at Kirker Davis LLP in Austin, where she represented clients across Texas in complex divorce, custody, and business valuation matters. She is a member of the Family Law Section of the State Bar of Texas, the Family Law Section of the Austin Bar Association, the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists, and the Mother Attorney Mentor Association, and she is an alumna of Alpha Delta Pi.

Family Law Is Personal.
Your Attorney Should Be Too.

Divorce and family law matters are among the most consequential legal proceedings a person will ever face. The outcome will shape your financial future, your relationship with your children, and your personal life for years — often decades — to come.

At the Law Office of Becca M. Kennedy, I believe that exceptional legal representation starts with understanding you: your priorities, your concerns, and the life you're working to protect. Every case I accept receives the same level of attention, preparation, and strategic thought that I would want for my own family.

My practice is focused exclusively on family law — not as one of many practice areas, but as my singular professional commitment. This depth of focus means I understand the nuances of Texas family law at a level that generalists cannot match.

What Board Certification Really Means

Board certification in family law is not simply a credential — it is a rigorous designation awarded to attorneys who have practiced in their specialty for at least five years and demonstrated competency to the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Few family law attorneys in Austin hold this distinction.

High-Net-Worth Divorce Expertise

Complex financial situations — business ownership, real estate portfolios, investment accounts, executive compensation packages, and retirement funds — require attorneys who understand not only family law, but the financial structures and legal instruments involved in sophisticated asset ownership. I have extensive experience navigating these complexities and, where needed, engaging the right financial experts to ensure every asset is identified, characterized, and appropriately addressed.

Board Certified Paralegal, Family Law — Texas Board of Legal Specialization

Jordan M. Thomas is a board certified family law paralegal with more than a decade of experience supporting Texas family law litigation. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Paralegal Studies from the University of Mississippi in 2013 and moved to Austin the following year, beginning her career at The Law Office of Janet McCullar. She has worked exclusively in family law ever since.

Before joining the Law Office of Becca M. Kennedy, Jordan served as a family law paralegal at Friday, Milner, Lambert & Turner and at Kirker Davis LLP, both in Austin. Over the course of her career she has worked the full arc of contested family matters, from initial pleadings and temporary orders through discovery, mediation, and trial preparation.

In 2019, Jordan earned board certification in family law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a credential requiring documented experience in the field, peer review by attorneys and judges, and a comprehensive examination. She is a member of the Paralegal Division of the State Bar of Texas.

How I Serve My Clients

I.

Understand Your Objectives

I begin by listening. Your goals, your concerns, and your vision for life after this proceeding shape every strategic decision I make on your behalf.

II.

Build Your Strategy

Whether through negotiation, mediation, collaboration, or litigation, I build a legal strategy calibrated to your specific situation — not a one-size-fits-all approach.

III.

Advocate Without Compromise

Your interests are protected at every step — in negotiations, in mediation, and if necessary, in the courtroom. I do not settle for less than what you deserve.

I Practice Family Law
Because It Matters

Every family that walks through my door is in the midst of one of life's most challenging transitions. I do not take that responsibility lightly. I am here to provide not just legal expertise, but clarity, steadiness, and genuine advocacy — so that you and your family can move forward with confidence into the next chapter of your lives.
